SQUG Advisories__________________

SQUG occasionally issues advisories to alert SQUG members of errors identified in documents used by SQUG members.  While SQUG does not have 10 CFR Part 21 reporting obligations, the Steering Group believes that it is appropriate to notify utilities of errors found so that they can perform the proper reviews.  The File Name used for each of the documents listed on this page is in the format of the date that the document was transmitted (YR-MO-DA).  These documents are listed below in reverse chronological order.

EPRI Errata for NP-6041, Page 6-43,
“A Methodology for Assessment of Nuclear Power Plant Seismic Margin (Revision 1)”

EPRI identified a typographical error in the subject EPRI report, Equation H-17, which calculates the acceptance criteria for loads applied to electrical raceways.  The exponents in this equation should be outside the parentheses, as shown below (rather than inside as originally published):

This error has been corrected in the electronic version of this report, which may be downloaded at:

EPRI Errata for 1018352, Pages 5-1 and D-32,
“Benchmarking for Seismic Housekeeping at Nuclear Power Plants: Compilation of Industry Practices”

EPRI identified a typographical error in the subject EPRI report  on pages 5-1 and D-32 in which 10CFR50.59  was erroneously cited.  It should be 10CFR50.65 instead when performing a risk assessment of an opened door in electrical cabinet during a routine operator or maintenance activity.

This error has been corrected in the electronic version of this report, which may be downloaded at:

EPRI Errata for NP-6041, Page H-17,
“A Methodology for Assessment of Nuclear Power Plant Seismic Margin (Revision 1)”

EPRI identified a typographical error in the subject EPRI report, Equation H-17, which calculates the “elephant-foot” buckling axial stress capacity of a tank shell.  The denominator in the second bracketed term in this equation should read:

1.12 + S11.5

That is, the value of S1 should be raised to the 1.5 power NOT multiplied by 1.5.

This error has been corrected in the electronic version of this report, which may be downloaded at:

SQUG Advisory 2004-02: Relay GERS Corrections

SQUG issued this second advisory to alert current and former member utilities that typographical errors have been found in the GERS seismic capacity acceleration levels provided in several EPRI reports.  Most of them are in the last two GERS reports that were published:

·        EPRI TR-105988, GERS Formulated Using Data from the SQURTS Program, Volume 1, April 1996.

·        EPRI TR-105988, GERS Formulated Using Data from the SQURTS Program, Volume 2, April 1999.

The specific corrections to some of the pages in these reports and others are contained in the Errata Sheets for Relay GERS Reports

This Advisory and its cover letter provide a complete description of the errors, how the errors were identified, background on the relay operations, and recommendations for evaluating the impact on the USI A-46 program for member plants.  This Advisory includes a description of the GERS error identified in the previous SQUG Advisory 2004-01: GERS Correction for General Electric IAC66K Relay.

SQUG Advisory 2004-01: GERS Correction for General Electric IAC66K Relay

SQUG issued this advisory to alert current and former member utilities that a typographical error has been found in the GERS seismic capacity acceleration levels provided in EPRI NP-7147, Seismic Ruggedness of Relays, Volume 2: Addendum 2, April 1995 for the General Electric (GE) IAC66K relay.  The specific corrections to some of the pages in this report and others are contained in the Errata Sheets for Relay GERS Reports

This Advisory and its cover letter provide a complete description of the error, how the error was identified, background on the relay operations, and recommendations for evaluating the impact on the USI A-46 program for member plants.  Also, see SQUG Advisory 2004-02: Relay GERS Corrections for a description of the corrections to several other relay GERS capacities.
